About Maple View

It began with a vision...

Dale G. Mellum and Gaylin Schmidt began discussing a whole new view of retirement living: resort-style living in home-style surroundings and health services for people 55 and better. Mr. Mellum and Mr. Schmidt envisioned The View on Elk Drive.

In 2005, the pair began to build memory care communities that provide innovative care AND an engaging activity program using the Montessori-based approach to dementia care.

Following Mr. Mellum's death in 2008, Mrs. Deborah Mellum and Mr. Schmidt paired up to operate Maple View Memory Care Communities in Bismarck and The View independent/assisted living facility in Minot. Grand View, the parent company of Maple View in Grand Forks, was formed when Mr. Schmidt teamed up with Tim Crary, a Grand Forks real estate broker and developer and Grand Forks attorney and local business owner Jim Nostdahl. The rest, as they say, is history.
